Homemade Cheddar Crackers - A Fun Recipe For Your Little Ones To Take Over
Nothing is better than a great cracker, especially with a slice of cheese. Crackers in our home are at the top of our snack list and with little ones cheddar crackers are pretty popular. You know Goldfish crackers are always on tap in our cupboards! Have you ever tried to make your own crackers? It is actually pretty simple and a GREAT recipe to do with your little ones! The recipe itself doesn’t take many ingredients and the prep is easy enough for your littles to help and handle most of it. We love these crackers because they are crisp and a bit soft in the middle. They have such a fun texture that we all love!
Before bringing your kids into the kitchen, lay out all the ingredients and kitchen tools you’ll need. This way when they come into the kitchen everything is prepared for them and it you aren’t running around trying to locate things. They can help measure the flour and cheese. Push the blender buttons and then use their hands to bring together the dough. Have them roll the dough and then the fun part … use small cookie cutters to cut out cracker shapes! Since it is October and Halloween is my favorite, we used these cute spooky themed cookie cutters. Be sure to get tiny cookie cutters so your crackers come out in a snack-able size. You can find our tiny Halloween cookie cutters HERE!

Homemade Cheddar Crackers
What You Need
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 a stick of cold butter
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
4 tablespoons ice water
*Optional Ingredients; 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt/seasoned salt for extra flavor
You’ll need a food processor OR blender
What You Do
Start by pre-heating your oven to 350 degrees.
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
Use a cheese grater and grate about 1 cup of cheddar cheese. It is ok to grate extra cheese. It can be a snack while you finish cooking! (You can also use pre-shredded cheese too ;)
Grab a large bowl. Measure your flour and cheese, then pour both into the bowl. You can use your hands to mix the two together.
Now, pour the flour and cheese mixture into a food processor or blender.
Measure 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt, add it to the flour and cheese mixture in the food processor or blender. You can also add other seasonings here as well. We like to add a bit of granulated garlic. You can add fresh cracked pepper or even a bit of cajon seasoning for a subtle kick!
Pour the blended flour and cheese mixture back into your large bowl.
Measure a 1/2 stick of butter. Use a butter knife to cut into small pieces. Be sure that the butter is cold.
With your hands, work the cold butter pieces into the flour and cheese mixture until it resembles sand.
Measure 4 tablespoons of ice water and pour one tablespoon at a time into the flour, cheese, and butter mixture. Work it together until a dough ball comes together. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap or parchment paper and chill for about 15-20 minutes.
After the dough has chilled, roll it out on a floured surface. You’ll want to roll the dough out until it is about 1/2 inch thick. Use a tiny cookie cutter to cut out cracker shapes or a butter knife to cut squares. Get creative and personalize your crackers!
Place the cut cracker dough onto the baking sheets lined with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat. Bake the crackers for about 10-15 minutes or until golden and crisp. Let them cool completely before snacking on them! Store in a container or zip top bag for up to a week.
